Our
Story
In Rotary Year 2002-2003, one of the thrusts of District Governor Efren Martinez’s leadership is club strengthening. He envisioned the organization of more Rotary clubs who will be an example of service for the people. His vision came into reality with the organization and chartering of six new Rotary Clubs, which includes the Rotary Club of Mutya ng Santa Maria, an all-female club and the second service club in the town of Santa Maria, Bulacan.

The Rotary Club of Mutya ng Santa Maria was organized through the concerted effort of then District Governor Efren Martinez, District Governor Special Representative Miguelito Jose, and Immediate Past President Plecy Hermogenes of the Rotary Club of Santa Maria. Its first organizational meeting was held on February 9, 2003 at the residence of DG Efren. It was attended by some of the most successful women entrepreneurs and professionals in the community. During the said meeting, DG Efren gave the attendees an overview of what Rotary is all about, its objectives and the significant role of the Rotary Club in the community. Likewise, the group was enlightened on their responsibilities as future Rotarians and the contributions that Rotary can give to uplift the lives of the less fortunate.

A significant number of those who attended the February 9 meeting responded positively to the call of DG Efren. A second meeting immediately followed last February 17, 2003 presided by DGSR Lito Jose. At the said meeting, the election of the first set of officers was held. The group unanimously elected Ms. Agueda "Fely" Gallardo as its Charter President and Ms. Ma. Salome "Sally" Jose as the President-Elect.

The next issue that was tackled was the appropriate name for the club. Since this is an all-women club, members of the club wanted its name to be relevant and at the same time different from the other clubs. A lot of suggestions came up but the group unanimously agreed to name their club as the “Rotary Club of Mutya ng Santa Maria”. The word “mutya” depicts the qualities of women of substance, qualities that can be found in all the members of the club. Likewise, “Pamana” was unanimously voted as the name of the club’s official bulletin. Why? Because the group would like to be remembered by their town mates through the legacies that they will give to their community.

The Rotary Club of Mutya ng Santa Maria officially became a member of the Rotary International on May 14, 2003.

Today, the Rotary Club of Mutya ng Santa Maria has 44 members.
